Why do we tin our British fish in Spain?
Our tinned seafood project began with a simple idea — to celebrate British fish by preserving it at its best. Since the very first batch, every edition has sold out within months, proving just how much people love high quality tinned seafood made with care and attention.
Why We Started
The idea came from a frustration with how industrial most large scale canning had become. When I visited canneries across the UK, I saw the volume and efficiency but missed the artistry. Then, in the small workshops of Portugal and northern Spain, I found what I was looking for — patience, skill and pride in every tin.
At one of these canneries, run by a man named Carlos with a small team, everything is still done by hand. Mackerel are steamed and cleaned with scissors, mussels are gently fried before being dressed in handmade marinades, and every lid is sealed with care. It is food made by people who love what they do.
British Fish, European Craft
Our fish travels from the South West coast to Asturias, a journey no further than Dartmouth to Aberdeen. It brings together two worlds — the exceptional seafood of British waters and the craftsmanship of northern Spain’s canning tradition. The result is tinned seafood that combines the best of both: the freshness of our catch and the expertise of artisans who know how to preserve it perfectly.
A Lasting Partnership
This project is about more than just convenience. It is about creating something lasting - seafood that captures a moment in time, prepared with the same respect as if it were being served fresh from the grill. Every tin tells a story of sustainability, craftsmanship and the connection between coastlines.
From rich squid in ink to delicate crab and beautifully marinated mussels, each tin is an invitation to experience seafood at its purest and most delicious. Available through our Online Seafood Market and selected retailers, they make wonderful gifts and are a reminder that great seafood, when treated properly, can last well beyond the day it was caught.
British fish, artisan craft, and the joy of sharing something made with care — that’s what this project has always been about.
