Seafood restaurant in Dartmouth

The original Rockfish, and still one of the best views in the house.

This is where Rockfish began back in 2008, and the idea has never changed: the freshest fish, simply cooked, in the town that is our spiritual home. Our Dartmouth restaurant sits right on the South Embankment, looking out over the River Dart. Naval fleets have launched from this river, fishing boats have worked it for centuries, and today the ferries, yachts and crabbing lines off the quay keep it as alive as ever. Pull up a seat by the window and the whole show plays out in front of you.

Our seafood is landed in Brixham, just around the coast, prepared by hand each morning and here in time for lunch. The vibe is laid-back, the team knows their stuff, and if you're not sure what to order, ask them what came in today.

Dartmouth is a proper river town, castle at the mouth, naval college on the hill, and we're proud to be part of its everyday life, from regatta week to quiet Tuesdays in November.

A collage of the communities Rockfish support

Rooted in Community

We believe a restaurant should be part of its community, not just a place in it. Thanks to the generosity of our guests, who can choose to add an optional £1 to their bill, Rockfish supports local charities, community projects and inspirational people doing brilliant things close to home, in every harbour and seaside town we call home across Devon and Dorset. From youth clubs and sailing trusts to beach cleans and seaside festivals, discover what guest generosity is doing in your town.

Dog friendly dining in Dartmouth

Dogs are as much a part of beach life as we are, so four-legged crew are very welcome at Rockfish Dartmouth. Water bowls are always on hand, and after a morning exploring the town and walking along the River Dart, there's no better spot for you both to refuel.

Dining outside in Dartmouth

We don't currently have outdoor tables at our Dartmouth restaurant, but don't let that keep you indoors! Our Rockfish takeaway is just around the corner, serving the same fresh fish and chips to go, and in Dartmouth the whole town is your dining room. Pull up a bench on the South Embankment and eat overlooking the River Dart, wander down to Bayard's Cove and watch the boats from the old quay, or find a spot on the grass in Royal Avenue Gardens. Fish and chips by the water, eaten in the sea air: some would say that's the best table in town.
