At Rockfish we are passionate about sustainable seafood, that’s why we support the MSC (Marine Stewardship Council). Mitch is an Ambassador for the MSC and our wonderful seafood restaurant menu - and online seafood market - regularly features delicious seafood from MSC certified fisheries including Haddock, Hake and Prawns. We're also very proud that the MSC awarded us as joint Foodservice Champion in their 2022 MSC awards.
About the MSC
The MSC are on a mission to stop overfishing, to protect the oceans around us and safeguard seafood supplies. When you buy a product with the MSC blue ecolabel, you become part of a virtuous circle, helping to protect the productivity and health of our oceans.
Here's how it works:
1. Fisheries that meet the MSC Standard are independently certified as sustainable
2. Retailers and restaurants choose MSC certified sustainable seafood
3. A sustainable supply chain providing assurance to conscious consumers
4. Consumers can look out for the blue MSC ecolabel when shopping
5. Market demand for MSC certified seafood increases
6. More fisheries choose to become part of the MSC Standard

Sustainability is all about ensuring fish species can continue to reproduce so that healthy stock levels are maintained. Rockfish does not buy seafood from any fishery that is not well controlled or managed and we work hard to ensure none of the precious catch is wasted.
MSC Hake: a south west sustainability success story
Hake is a real sustainability success story for the south west. It hasn’t always been the prized fish it is, and after a period of slight depletion in the 1990s it was undervalued, leading to the hake that was landed arriving on the market in poor condition. The fishing community in the south west saw the potential in this fabulous firm white fish and changed their fishing methods, worked hard and got MSC certification for the fishery.
