Adventures at Sea - Christmas Update!

Christmas morning brought an unexpected surprise to the crew of Rockfisher II. Santa, in a feat of logistical brilliance, managed to deliver stockings brimming with delicious Rockfish tinned fish – a truly unique Christmas treat halfway across the Atlantic.

At 3 am on Christmas morning, the crew received an unexpected radio call. A US warship, having spotted them on AIS but not on radar, was seeking clarification on their identity and intentions. The warship was concerned that the crew might be operating some sort of stealth vessel planning some holiday mischief! The crew quickly explained that they were, in fact, an ocean rowing team. The warship wished them a jolly Christmas but sadly did not provide any mince pies!

The crew continues to grapple with the challenges of life at sea. The constant dampness permeates everything, and the lack of drying conditions has left their clothing stiff and salty. The salt crystals that accumulate on their clothing and rowing seats are causing discomfort, leaving them craving the simple luxury of clean, dry bed sheets.

Despite these challenges, they have settled into a rhythm of life at sea. Initially, even the simplest movements around the boat felt laborious. However, they have now adapted to their surroundings. Unfortunately, they have slipped down a few places in the rankings overnight due to unfavourable wind conditions.

Team morale also then took a bit of a hit. The intense heat and a significant drop in wind speed have allowed other boats to overtake them. Rex is ok but some of the team are a little melancholic.

A large gin palace is set to pass by. They have been in contact with the crew via radio, and they have offered to give them a honk as they pass.
