If Rockfish did meat

We’re thrilled to announce that you can now buy Rockfish sustainable seafood from another fabulous southwest food company, Pipers Farm. In the same way that we know the people who catch and land our fish, Pipers Farm work with ethical farmers who they know and trust which is why they are the perfect partners. Pipers Farm customers will now be able to get Rockfish local seafood, tinned British seafood and our Rockfish Easy range alongside their grass-fed free-range meat, in one delivery.

Here's what Mitch had to say about our latest collaboration:

“I have long been a fan of Pipers Farm, not only for the fabulous quality of their meat but also for the ethics and thinking that’s behind their whole operation, from the beautiful Devon farms where animals live naturally, through to the expert cutting and the ageing, it is a unique operation. Nothing is wasted and once dry aged the quality is locked in and there is a cut for every occasion and every budget, I think it’s the way we should be buying our meat today.”

So why exactly did we want to work with Pipers Farm?

Pipers Farm is a destination for meat that is produced sustainably and in harmony with nature. These are the things they believe in:

Family Farms – Not Factory Farms

They work with 40 small-scale family farms based in Devon, Dorset, Somerset and Cornwall. That’s because Pipers Farm believe that small-scale mixed farming is the most sustainable way to produce food.

Sustainable Community

Pipers Farm believe that proper sustainable farming needs to have an economic benefit to the community. It is no good having farmers and workers unable to make a living through food production as this only leads to unfair pressure on principles. They work with their farmers and agree upfront on a fair price to produce the food.

Native Breeds

Pipers Farm have specifically chosen breeds that are native to this part of the world and that are used to the terrain and climate here in Devon. Turning a rugged and difficult land into an abundant rich landscape that produces nourishing, healthy, high welfare food that simultaneously becomes a haven for wildlife.

Permanent Pasture

Grassland forms a vital part of our countryside and for centuries has been the principal food source for cattle and sheep. Pipers’ fields also contain a variety of other plant species including herbs, wildflowers, and clovers that support a diverse range of insects and wildlife.

Regenerative Farming

Regenerative farming is an approach to food and farming systems that rejects pesticides, artificial fertilizers and chemical inputs, and instead focusses on regenerating topsoil, increasing biodiversity, improving water cycles and increasing resilience to climate fluctuation to strengthen the health and vitality of farming communities.

Slow Food

One of the fundamental principles of farming the Pipers Farm way is to grow livestock slowly. By selecting the right breeds, with the right diet, they let animals grow at a natural pace.

Eat Less Meat

Pipers Farm believe we should all eat much less meat, and when we do eat meat ensure it has been produced in a way that has respect for the animal, respect for the farmer and respect for the landscape.

Food Waste

Reducing food waste is incredibly important to Pipers Farm which is why they utilise the whole carcass from nose to tail to make sure nothing is ever wasted.
